The Comma Rules:
Students will continue to organize their ideas and details for their free write. Students should begin their sloppy copy (rough draft) and continue to conference with a teacher.
You can use these resources at home:
Students will continue to work with their spelling sorts this week during Word Work as well as homework. Students are responsible for spelling and sorting their words correctly. Students will receive a new list a spelling sorts this week. As a reminder, 3 spelling homework jobs are due each Friday.

Monday

Students will explore area and perimeter with rectangles and triangles. Students will approach finding area by “tiling” a given space.
(At this point, students should be fluent with all addition and subtraction facts through 12. Nightly practice is encouraged if mastery is not yet achieved. Weekly timed quizzes will be each Friday. Personal goals will be set after each quiz. Please encourage your child to reach their goal!)

Students will develop the concept of area, measure an area by using 1-foot and 1-yard squares, and find area by counting squares.

Students will develop the concept of area by measuring with identical squares. Students will calculate how to find the area of rectangles using number models.

Students will relate circumference and diameter through the about 3 times rule.

Students will review concepts for Unit 3 in preparation for the Unit test.

Sharing the Planet: Students will read Adaptations, a Science A-Z Life Series. Students will analyze different bird beaks, make predictions, collect the data found, and model the function of various beak adaptations by exploring how different tools manipulate various objects.

Sharing the Planet: Students will continue and complete their bird adaptation activity.

Friday
|
Sharing the Planet: Students will watch DisneyNature’s EARTH. This film provides students with insight to three different species of animals who live in three very different habitats. Students will discuss facts about the African elephant, polar bear, and humpback whale. Students will then write a short response to the question, “Could these animals swap habitats? Why or why not?”
