GRAMMAR: Students will review identifying adjectives in a sentence and using adjectives to describe nouns in their own writing. Adjectives are are words that describe or modify other words. They can identify or quantify another person or thing in the sentence.Adjectives are usually positioned before the noun or the pronoun that they modify. Adjectives tell how many, what kind, or which one.
For example:
Dan decided that the fuzzy green bread would make an unappetizing sandwich.
What kind of bread? Fuzzy and green! What kind of sandwich? Unappetizing!
Students will also be working with proper adjectives. These adjectives come from from proper nouns. Proper nouns are nouns that name specific people, places, things, or ideas. Think of proper as meaning specific. Example: Proper Noun : America
Proper Adjective: American
Students will be introduced to comparative and superlative adjectives by the conclusion of the week. A comparative adjective is used to compare two things. A superlative adjective is used when you compare three or more things. For example, looking at apples you can compare their size, determining which is big(adjective), which is bigger (comparative), and which is biggest (superlative.)
