Week of Sept. 8th-11th

Central Idea: Who We Are
Family  heritage and heredity influence who we are as individuals.

Reading: Daily 5/ CAFE
Writing: VOICES
  • VOICES: Students will continue the 6+1 Traits of Writing. This is referred to as VOICES: voice, organization, ideas, conventions, expanded vocabulary, and sentence fluency. We will continue with the Ideas trait this week. We will practice taking a big idea and narrowing it down. Students will use supporting details to make their ideas interesting to the reader.

  • Grammar: Students will continue noun practice. This week we will discuss and practice proper and common noun usage. Proper nouns are formal names of people, places, and things and should always be capitalized.

  • Handwriting: Third grade will continue practicing the formation of their cursive letters. This week they will focus on H,I,J and K (upper and lower case.) Fourth grade will review the formation letters in cursive that they are constantly forming and/or connecting incorrectly. Fourth grade students are expected to write in cursive on all assignments unless otherwise indicated.

  • Words Their Way Spelling:
Students will receive their new spelling sorts on Tuesday and will have this list for the next two weeks. Students are responsible for spelling and sorting their words correctly. As a reminder, 3 spelling homework jobs are due each Friday.





3rd Grade Math

Students will review ways in which basic addition and subtraction facts are used to solve problems with larger numbers.

Students will solve “What’s My Rule” problems.

Students will use parts-and-total diagrams to help solve parts-and-total number stories.

4th Grade Math

Monday
Who We Are:  Holiday-No School
Tuesday
Who We Are:  Students will begin collecting information about their family tree.
Wednesday
Who We Are: Students will create a family tree based on the information gathered.
Thursday
Who We Are:   Students will research the history of the family crest/Coat of Arms.
Friday
Who We Are:  Based on information the students have learned about their families, students will begin to create a family crest for on side of their family based on information known.
