Program of Inquiry
How the World Works

Central Idea:
Energy is generated, stored, and used in different ways.

Reading: Daily 5/ CAFE
Daily 5/CAFE:  This week students will conclude our poetry unit by writing a color poem and an “I Am” poem.  Students will put finishing touches on their poetry books in preparation for our Poetry Cafe on Tuesday, May 31.  We hope that you’ll join us at 11:00 a.m.!


BOOK GENRE STUDY- May:  Nonfiction Text DUE ON THURSDAY, MAY 26th!!!
We will end the school year with a written books report.  Your child will have the guidelines for the book report, or they can also be found on the link below.

VOCABULARY: Students will be assessed on their final word list this week. Students are encouraged to study their Wordly Wise vocabulary words at home for homework.  Students may use their books, or they can use Quizlet for practice.  
3rd and 4th grade word lists vary for each student.  Your child can locate their Wordly Wise word lists in their student books.  Word lists can also be found on Quizlet.
Writing: VOICES
1:30-2:00
Writing (VOICES): Students will complete their official WrAP writing assessment this week.  Students should follow the writing process and the given prompt to demonstrate their best writing skills.  Students are encouraged to check over their writing for sentence completion, spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation.  Students will be given a narrative prompt in which they write a story following the prompt.  We know they will demonstrate their writing skills learned throughout the school year!
Later in the week, students will write a friendly letter to accompany their photo taken on Grandparent’s Day.  We will be mailing their letters!

GRAMMAR: Students will begin reviewing all grammar concepts in preparation for the year-end grammar test.  Feel free to explore past blog posts to review grammar concepts.


WORDS THEIR WAY SPELLING:
Students will be assessed on their final word list this week. Students are responsible for knowing the sorting rules as well as the correct spelling for each word.  Your child’s list of words can be located in their agenda.  Please complete three DIFFERENT spelling jobs for homework.  Spelling HW is due on FRIDAY this week.


3rd Grade Math 9:15-10:15

Monday
Students will review all math concepts in preparation for the year-end test.  Student homework this week will include a review of many math concepts.
Tuesday
Students will review all math concepts in preparation for the year-end test.
Wednesday
Students will review all math concepts in preparation for the year-end test.
Thursday
Students will complete the year-end assessment.
Friday
Students will complete the year-end assessment.



4th Grade Math 8:15-9:15

Students will review Math Unit 7 (fractions).
Tuesday
WrAP writing test will be administered during this time.
Wednesday
WrAP writing test will be administered during this time.

Students will review Math Unit 8 and 9 (area/perimeter and decimals/fractions/percents).
Friday
Students will  complete their year-end 4th grade math assessment.



Science/Social Studies 2:00-3:00
Monday
How The World Works: Students will use this time to work with their assigned partner to complete their unit summative.
Tuesday
How The World Works: Students will use this time to work with their assigned partner to complete their unit summative.
Wednesday
How The World Works:  Students will use this time to work with their assigned partner to complete their unit summative.  Students may conference with a teacher to clarify any questions they have about their summative project.
Thursday
How the World Works:  Students will use this time to work with their assigned partner to complete their unit summative.  Students may conference with a teacher to clarify any questions they have about their summative project.
Friday
How the World Works:  Students will use this time to work with their assigned partner to complete their unit summative.  Students will complete their unit reflection as well as a partner reflection.
